I lived in Germany with my family while my dad served in the military at Rhein Main Air Force Base. Our home was at least 100 years old, but very quaint. Among the shops in our tiny town, my sister, brother and I discovered the local bakery and loved walking there to see the sweet treats in the window display. We were delighted at the beautiful pastries, cookies, gingerbread houses and candies, especially at Christmastime.
My mom fell in love with the German tradition of gingerbread houses, and every Christmas my family hand made our own gingerbread house. After I married and started my own family, I started our own tradition of making houses and cookies at Christmastime. After several years of making them for my kids and friends, my loved ones suggested I start selling them, and The Gingerbread Cottage was born. I hope you enjoy the tradition as much as I do.
