If you have spent any time trying to find convenience products that fit this bill, you have probably realized how difficult they are to find. Gluten-free products generally contain rice flour (which can contribute to the grainy texture) and loads of sugar. Sometimes they have the texture of cardboard. Sometimes they have that nasty aftertaste from Stevia, aspartame or other artificial sweeteners.

We saw a real need in the marketplace for health-conscious individuals whose priority was eating clean, wholesome foods, but who also wanted to have a treat from time to time that wouldn’t completely undo the day’s hard work.

Giant Taste, Skinny Waist products are made from whole, clean ingredients. We use turbinado sugar, which is a minimally processed sugar that is richer in flavor so less can be used to achieve a delicious treat. Once upon a time I knew someone who had a wheat allergy. I was always on the lookout for wheat-free recipes I could make. At the same time, I wasn’t tolerating milk very well, so I was avoiding both wheat and dairy. I was searching and searching for wheat free, dairy free things that I could make at home and take to parties and functions. At the same time, I was eating really healthy, so the typical gluten free and allergy friendly foods just weren’t cutting it. The recipes I could find on Pinterest were more or less a crap chute, and most of them were barely edible. I quickly realized that there was a need for healthier, gluten-free and dairy-free products that didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

I could hold my own in the kitchen, so I started messing around with muffins, banana bread and brownies. The goal was to keep everything super clean and super wholesome, but still taste super good. Many, many, many batches later, I finally started honing in on the secret to gluten-free and dairy-free baking.

People loved my treats and would ask for the recipe. But when I would share it, the list of “strange flours” was often overwhelming, and my recipes were rarely made. I started thinking: what if I do the hard part for you? I played around, packaging the dry portions of the mix, writing directions, and having friends and families serve as test bunnies for me. It was a success! Not only did people love that they could get their wholesome, yummy treats, they loved how easy it was to do. One girl told me, “I can’t cook, and I made the banana bread no problem!” And, so, Giant Taste, Skinny Waist was born.
