Prevodorants

Simplify by Kim “Prevodorants” are a healthy alternative to chemical (& even “natural”) based deodorants in-as-much as they are healthy for the skin & body and provide the body, where applied, with a shield that kills microorganisms on contact so that body odor does not begin formation.  Non-allergenic levels of essential oils are used to provide the scents consumers normally associate with deodorant products, but those oils provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties alongside the silver, copper and zinc used as the frontline of defense against odor formation.

The product has proven to work as promised; preventing odor after application until it is washed off, or sweat off (profusely).  Some customers report the product works for multiple days. The original line of product is 100% purified minerals and plant-derived ingredients.  The new clear gel (in a gel deodorant oval stick) does use carbomer plus a very small amount of TEA as a gelling agent (which is “chemical”), but Dr. Kasting at the University of Cincinnati assures us that the molecules are far too large to pass through the skin into the body through the process called “dermal absorption,” a process through which chemicals applied to skin absorb through into our blood, fat & lymph cells.

In effect, our primary marketing claim is that Simplify by Kim Prevodorants are the single most natural deodorant alternative product on the market and that it works as promised.  The scientific claim behind the product is that we took dermal absorption into consideration so that our customers can rest assured that their use of Prevodorants is entirely safe and actually healthy for them inside & out – a new high-bar in the world of personal care and hygiene CPG.

Simplify by Kim “Prevodorants” ® were born from an experience with a youth group on the trail for several days.  Bret found he had failed to pack any deodorant, and after his only chance to freshen up, decided to use silver he had available and found that not only did he not develop body odor the next day or two, but that it also healed his rashes formed during the hike and he felt fresh despite the remaining trail activities.  He began to study how silver, copper and zinc – in various ratios – could be used with various ingredients, hoping to find a list of all natural ingredients that could make the product marketable.  The brand name, Simplify by Kim, is a “shout-out” to Bret’s wife’s parents, who escaped from North Korea with nothing but their family name & good character.  Ju-Sun Kim Nelson is 50% owner of the company and helped develop the scent ratios.  Their daughter, Jinhee Kim Nelson, is studying intellectual property law at the J. Reuben Clark school of law at BYU and has likewise been instrumental.  We are “Kim,” and we want to help people simplify the spate of ingredients applied to their skin so they and their skin can be healthier.

During his investigations into what makes a good & healthy personal care & hygiene product, Bret learned about dermal absorption when he saw what proved to be very untruthful summaries of the research of Dr. Kasting at the University of Cincinnati, the world’s foremost researcher on the process describing how chemicals & drugs applied to skin can get through the skin and into blood, fat, & lymph cells.  He reached out to Dr. Kasting and obtained copies of his seminal research articles and his class curriculum, and engaged in other academic discussions which led to various ingredient decisions that make Simplify by Kim Prevodorants possible.  After a legal tussle with Lume (owned by Harry’s Razors) over the trademark “Prevodorant,” and having settled amicably, Simplify by Kim made some important formulation adjustments based upon feedback from initial users.  Simplify by Kim now has 2 product lines, available in 5 different scents for the public available in 3 retail locations, one clinic, on TheHealthStore.com, and is in discussions with other retailers and YouTube influencers.  The product is in its infancy from a retail distribution standpoint, but has a lot of boxes checked for expansion and success.
